Our Mission & History
At Chesterfield Athletic Club, we are dedicated to fostering a community-centered environment that emphasizes health, wellness, and exceptional customer service. As a locally owned establishment, our mission is to engage with our community, providing a member-driven experience that caters to individuals and families alike.
History of the CAC
Established on November 1, 1974, as Castle Oaks, Chesterfield Athletic Club has been a cornerstone of the Chesterfield community for over five decades. Founded by Steve Apted and Lou Sachs, the club originally featured six indoor and ten outdoor tennis courts, an ice rink, and nine racquetball courts.
In the early 1980s, the facility underwent significant transformations: the ice rink was converted into an indoor soccer field around 1980, and by 1982, under the ownership of MetLife, the adjacent Breckenridge Hotel was constructed, with the soccer field becoming the indoor pool.
July 2005 marked a new chapter as the DoubleTree acquired the club, renaming it the Chesterfield Athletic Club. A multi-million dollar renovation was completed in January 2007, briefly rebranding the facility as The Club at Chesterfield. In the summer of 2011, St. Louis-based Lodging Hospitality Management Inc. purchased both the club and the DoubleTree Hotel, reinstating the beloved name—Chesterfield Athletic Club.
Today, our expansive 91,000 square-foot facility includes nine indoor and six outdoor tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, cardio and weight rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, three racquetball courts, and three aerobic studios. We continue to honor our rich history while embracing growth and innovation to serve our members better.
Join us at Chesterfield Athletic Club, where tradition meets excellence, and community is at the heart of everything we do.
